Gunpla Model Kit Runner Stands

The project to started my journey was one of seeing a product in a model kit and going “I wonder if I can make something like that”. The design of these foldable runner stands find inspiration from a cardboard sprue/runner stand provided within a Gundam Model Kit that proved extremely useful.

Replicating this design proved a bit difficult at the time, namely creating something that would be easy to print, no supports included, foldable and easily stowable. The design of it’s hinge to inspiration from a Ribbon Fidget Toy designed by a maker named “Nokiri”, that were low profile and print in place. The visual elements of the stand followed common aesthetics of Gunpla packaging.

After some tests and fixes, I successful designed a foldable runner stand, with an added latch to keep the whole assembly together in use. I also revisited this project and designed a mini version of it to fit on smaller build volume printer, such as the A1 Mini.
