Riftbound TCG Score Point Tracker

In recent months I’ve started playing “Riftbound”, a trading card game based on the video game “League of Legends”, who’s win condition requires players to conquer battlefields and score 8 points. I’ve had a blast learning the mechanics of the game and improving my own game sense. Typically, keeping track of your score could be done either using a playmat with areas marked, using a die with at least 8 sides, or even using an app to count for you, however I wanted something physical that matched the aesthetic of the game. With that in mind I set to design a score tracker that can be tossed in your bag and brought out to local games.

The final design incorporated the gold trim found on Riftbound cards and the vibe of both the original source game and it’s television counterpart, “Arcane”. A channel runs along the frame of the tracker, allowing for a circular marker to easily slide into place. Initially I wanted a tactile feel to it, having the marker click into place, however I found it felt janky with a lot of resistance. Instead, the the marker moves to each number smooth and feels intentional. I’ve also added multiple options, such as single and double sided configurations, vertical or horizontal orientation, and 8 or 11 point trackers based on cards that add additional points to win.
